Arrogant, Am I?

I had to get photocopies of the Employment Offerletter of my previous employer urgently. Unfortunately, I realized that the photocopier person was very lazy to do any work. Unfortunate was not that he was lazy, unfortunate was that I realized it ;-) I got irritated. After copying one sheet, he sat on his PC to type something. I asked him if it would take more time. He told me only first sheet will take time but I found him to be very lazy. He wanted to work at his own snail pace. Finally he got up and started taking the xerox. When I asked him to stapple them, he gave me the stappler to do it myself. I gave him all the sheets and ordered him to stapple. He saw that there was no other way for him but to stapple. was I arrogant today?

I went to some company, my prospective Employer, to submit those photocopies. The security guard wanted me to sign a register. He threw the register at me. I did not want to take the 'thrown' register. I waited there and asked whether he would give me the visitor 's badge. He said that I have to sign the register. I gave him a stare and that seemed to have worked. I was about to say "Act like a Security Guard and not as a hero or owner of the company". Before that he took the register back and opened it for me. I am sure this was not Arrogance

I guess all this observation has come because of the last night's three-hour-over-the-mobile discussion with my friend. She claimed that I avoided confrontation. Though she did not allude to it, I felt that that it could be First-Child-Syndrome. Suddenly the incident of my childhood came into my mind. I was competetive with my sister who is 5 years younger to me. In everything! There was only one biscuit and both of us wanted that. My dad ordered that I should share it with my sister since he could not find any shop open at that time of the night. So, I broke the biscuit into two halves and I was measuring which one is big so that I can take. My dad scolded me for that. He said, "being an elder brother, you should take care of your sister, you should not compete with her like this for everything". When I was 10, I used to tease her saying that I will be the first one to use soap, first one to taste the food and that I will be using the chair from which I can have the best view of the TV!

Actually, this friend of mine (ok, why be diplomatic, she is Manju) hinted to me about my inability to confront others while we were having Pizza in Domino ' s. I decided then that I would start confronting. I think I have changed a little bit after that. Rather, I feel that I have changed quite a bit. I guess any more change in that would probably called as 'Arrogance '.

One funny incident at that company: While coming back after submitting the photocopies to the HR, I saw a person sitting in a very big open space a little tensed. I wanted to cheer him up and smiled at him. He got even more tensed and started staring hard at me! I wanted to send a signal that that was a friendly smile. I said "Hello". Immediately he got up and said "Good Morning Sir". I thought that if I did anything more than that, he would start crying. I bade good bye with yet another smile and left him in peace.
